Members of Council 12,
In the Summer of 2024 the United Master Executive Council, consisting of Presidents from all the Local Councils, unanimously adopted a Resolution: Housing Crisis in America Impact on Flight Attendants.
Since its adoption the United MEC Government Affairs Committee has compiled initial research on housing costs, along with contributing factors as well as legislation surrounding housing in several areas where United Airlines operates a Base: BOS, DEN, EWR/LGA, HNL, SFO, LAX/SAN. It will come as no surprise that the research showed how cost prohibitive housing has become across the country with some of the highest costs in California.
Safe, affordable housing is a basic right that everyone deserves. Yet, the current housing crisis has made this unattainable for many adding to stress and financial hardship experienced by working Americans. While we work to combat rising costs through strong Union Contracts we also must look for solutions to address the external costs that are rising at an unprecedented rate.
As a continuation of the initial Resolution, Los Angeles and San Diego, Council 12, will be the second base to participate in the housing survey. The survey will collect data and information about individual Members' housing experience. Initially this will take a look at the broad range of living and financial situations that impact Flight Attendant housing. All Council 12 Members from every seniority and socioeconomic group are encouraged to participate and share their experience.
All participants who chose to share their information will be deidentified and referenced by base location and seniority. Based on the results of the initial survey additional information may be requested or additional surveys may be offered.

In Solidarity,
Kimberly
Council 12 President
