Every March, we are provided the opportunity to honor the women who have shaped our nation. Today's women are lifted up by the sisters who came before them, fighting for justice, equity, and opportunity for every woman who comes next.
Throughout history, women have experienced hardship, discrimination, and exclusion, slowing our advancement in society. Even today, the contributions of women are frequently overshadowed or overlooked in comparison to the contributions of their male counterparts. While these hardships are universal among the female community, they have been disproportionately felt by women of color.
Female Flight Attendants are no strangers to discrimination in the workplace. Thanks to the women of the labor movement, reforms and improvements to our professions were secured. What was once a short-term job became a career with all the benefits that should be afforded to Aviation’s First Responders. The female leaders who fought against the discriminations of the industry paved the way for the career we know today.
This journey is far from over. Female-dominant professions in our country are often underpaid and undervalued. As women continue to advance through more of the American workforce, they will help to shrink the gender pay gap and break through their respective glass ceilings. Regardless of the unique communities women identify with, they are leaders who drive the future forward.
As we honor many powerful women shaping our future this Women’s History Month, let us acknowledge the invaluable work spearheaded by our female leaders in our Union and at the Master Executive Council. Elected to their positions by their peers, they have committed to advocating for our Union and all Members.
