What Happens When the Reserve Preferencing System Does Not Run?

Although rare, there are times when technical issues cause disruptions to the Reserve Preferencing assignment process. When this occurs, Section 8.D.10.f. of the JCBA provides that the company shall be allowed to process Reserve assignments in flight time accrued (TMAC) order with first-in-first-out (FIFO) order, then the higher seniority as the tie-breaker if necessary.

It should be noted that this manual process, as described in Section 8.C. of our Contract, does not consider preferences entered into the Reserve Preferencing system, nor does it consider Ready Reserve preferences (RTF, RNP, RSB, RMF). It does, however, consider co-terminal preferences at base locations with active co-terminals; currently, only EWR (LGA) and IAD (DCA & BWI).

Your Local Council Reserve Committee will work with the MEC Reserve Committee to ensure that any system irregularities are addressed with management and that assignments follow the expected Contractual process. As always, should you have questions regarding Reserve assignments, please contact your Local Council for the quickest response.
