Last night, AFA-CWA International Secretary-Treasurer & Council 12 Member Dante Harris joined the hotel workers on their strike picket line at the Sheraton Gateway-LAX.
UNITE HERE Local 11 members at dozens of hotels across Los Angeles and Orange Counties voted on June 8, 2023, to authorize a strike and may announce a walkout any day.
Since the pandemic, the region’s largest economic engine, the tourism industry, is celebrating record profits while hospitality workers are overworked, fighting to stay housed and alive. In 2023, workers have the opportunity to reclaim the right to live and work in their community.
Workers ask all guests and potential guests to respect their strike and not eat, sleep, or meet at a striking hotel. It is encouraged that guests and patrons contact hotel management about their concerns and reasons for cancelling reservations or checking out early. When you check out early or cancel your reservation, please consider posting about it on social media tagging our union and with the hashtag #SoCalHotelStrike
As Flight Attendants, we understand and support our hotel workers! If you see a picket line, stop by and introduce yourself!
An injury to one is an injury to all! Solidarity is the tide that lifts all boats!
