Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day

A Message from President Dante Harris

On Monday we celebrate Labor Day, the Workers Day. This is a holiday that doesn't celebrate a religion, country, or person, but rather we celebrate all working people. While many see Labor Day as the last gasp of summer, this is an important day to remember that all of our benefits and gains have not been given to us by a benevolent boss or company, but rather through fights and struggles.

On Labor Day, we remember the countless union members who fought for overtime pay, an eight hour workday, and weekends. We also honor those who continue to fight to raise wages, ensure that everyone has a safe workplace, and who fight to make sure that what we leave for future generations is just a little bit better than what we have.

I know this past year has been difficult for all of us. Working through a pandemic would be enough, but we have also faced job uncertainty, changes to our daily routine and a growing number of violent and agitated passengers. Yet, through all of this we have persevered and continued to show the poise and professionalism that makes us the best in the world.

Have a Happy Labor Day.
